About Dr. Nawei

Nawei Jiang holds a Ph.D. in Traditional Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture since 1987 and is the first woman in China to have achieved this level of education. Additionally, Dr. Jiang earned a Bachelors degree in Chinese Medicine, a Master's degree in Acupuncture and is an M.D. in China. Formerly, she served as the Vice President of the Acupuncture Techniques Branch of The Chinese Acupuncture Society and is the author of the book entitled Chinese Single Point Acupuncture & Moxibustion, published in 1990.

In order to expand her practice and to share her knowledge she moved to The United States where she has practiced since 1999. Dr. Jiang is a valued instructor for The Colorado School of Traditional Chinese Medicine in Denver. Dr. Nawei also specialized gynocology and eye disease treatment.

According to Chinese medicine, fat tissue results from excess dampness lodged in the skin and muscles. There are several ways to eliminate this dampness from the body. The most effective method is to gently increase the body’s basal metabolic rate and improve the processing of water and fluids by strengthening specific organ functions in the body. When this is done with acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine, weight loss is a natural by-product, which is both safe and more likely to be long term.

The two most commonly used treatment methods for promoting weight loss in Chinese medicine are Chinese herbs and acupuncture. The Chinese herbs are used to strengthen all the organs and functions of the body, thereby helping to eliminate excess dampness lodged in the tissues. There are also acupuncture techniques to accomplish all these same actions. Acupuncture may consist of needling points on the body or only points on the ear. This insures continuous treatment between regularly scheduled office visits. In addition, there is even an ear point to effectively suppress appetite!

The fact that acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine, when combined with appropriate diet and exercise, can help one lose weight is confirmed by extensive published research in China. For instance, in a study reported in issue #10, 2004 of Xin Zhong Yi (New Chinese Medicine), 18 males and 32 females 16-55 years of age were treated with electro-acupuncture on three acupoints over a period of one month. At the end of that time, ten patients lost 11 pounds or more, fifteen patients lost 6.6 pounds or more, and six lost no weight. Therefore, the total effectiveness rate was 88%. In issue #7, 2002 of Xin Zhong Yi (New Chinese Medicine), a study was published showing that

after treatment for 42 days with Chinese herbs and acupuncture, 81 patients lost 11 pounds or more, 91

patients lost 6.6 pounds, and 38 lost no wieght, for a total effectiveness rate of 81.9%.
